“The original plan was a boba shop, but I decided on a café after much consideration! ”

“I remember studying at cafes like any other student. ”

CLV, a café hidden within Puchong Jaya, is short for “C’est la vie” which means 'That's Life’ in French. The owner, Koh, was a dentist and decided to start a business during his gap-year. His original plan was to open a boba shop, but was turned down as the boba craze wasn’t as long lasting. While recalling himself studying in cafes and how café hopping became a trend among youngsters, he decided to start his own café.

The interior mainly focuses on a simple warm tone to reflect the comfort of home. The café has two main photozones: the front area has a minimal style with concrete floors, lined walls and a full body mirror suitable for photos; while the other photo corner is set off in the warm rays of sunshine and plants, large floor windows and stools.

In a busy area like Puchong Jaya, CLV is like a little hide-out, an escape from the hustle and bustle of life. With its calm, cozy environment, you will never want to leave.

“We opened not long before MCO was announced !”

“Our cakes are loved for its freshness and delicate sweetness.”

It was an unprecedented challenge for Koh when MCO started not long after CLV’s grand opening. They began selling cakes online after being fortunate enough to collaborate with a home baker and came out with the viral “Korean minimalist cake”. "I was really lucky as no one sold such cakes within Puchong." With so, they won the hearts of customers with their cake delivery service.

After a long period of MCO, CLV is now "officially" opened! Besides self baked minimalist cakes, C’est La Vie is a drink that combines milk with earl-grey and goes best with the cakes. Pair them up for a perfect afternoon tea! Their Dutch pancakes will also change your perception of brunch with fluffy pancakes, baked beans, sausages and more for a fulfilling meal of two!

“I hope CLV to be more known not just for its pet friendly, but also for the food and coffee.”

The owner, Koh owns puppies but always neglects them when he’s busy just like some pet-lovers out there. He also once fantasized about working or studying along with pets. So he thought: if he could maintain the café’s hygiene, would he be able to fulfil his dream? But for some people, eating with pets is unhygienic and is often opposed by elderlies. Koh hopes to break the stereotypes and strike a balance between being pet friendly and the café itself. He hopes that people will not neglect CLV’s services for its pet-friendly environment.

As for the future, Koh is well aware that CLV is far less than any high-end cafes, but is hoping to open a branch at a better location. Besides providing better services to the customers, he also wants to provide a wider space for the pets, so let’s anticipate the future of CLV!
